Amid geopolitical turmoil and trends of democratic backsliding, the safety and security of journalists have been increasingly under attack, both in the physical world and online. Independent and fact-based journalism is essential to providing critical information to the public, holding officials to account, and fostering trust in democratic institutions. Global actions need to be taken to protect both the safety and security of journalists, and their vital role in preserving and strengthening democracy around the world.
