The Society of Professional Journalists designated the Voice of America headquarters as a Historic Journalism Site. A plaque to commemorate this designation will be unveiled in the lobby of the Cohen Building Thursday, February 1 at 4:00 p.m.

Following the unveiling of the plaque there will be a moderated panel discussion on “The Legacy and Future of VOA.”

The following former directors of the VOA have already committed to attend:

  • Sanford J. Ungar, Director 1999-2001; Currently director of the Free Speech Project at Georgetown University
  • David Ensor – Director 2011-2015; Currently communications consultant.
  • Amanda Bennett – Director 2016-2020; Currently CEO of the US Agency for Global Media

Also on the panel will be Acting VOA Director John Lippman.

The panel will be moderated by Steve Geimann, former national president of the Society of Professional Journalists and retired news editor for Bloomberg based in London and Washington, DC.

Tours of the VOA studios will follow the panel discussion.
