Dateline Awards winners announced at dinner

 Published Date: June 12, 2024

The 2024 winners of the Online Investigative Journalism Award were David Hilzenrath (left) of KFF Health News, Jodie Fleischer (center) of Cox Media Group, and Fred Clasen-Kelly (who is represented by another investigative team member), among other contributors, for their collaborative effort on “Overpayment Outrage: Investigation of Social Security Clawbacks.” The category winner also was the winner of the Robert D.G. Lewis Award selected from the winning entries in each contest category, which recognizes the best-in-contest example of journalism that is aimed at protecting the public from abuses by those who would betray the public trust. Congratulations to all finalists and winners of the Dateline Awards contest.

We look forward to receiving entries from 2024 for the contest next year.

Denise Dunbar, SPJ DC Pro Chapter president for 2023-2024, is at the podium in the Ballroom of the National Press Club during the chapter’s annual Dateline Awards and Hall of Fame Dinner on June 11, 2024, as dinner is being served and the guests at the head table contemplate the remarks they will be making during festivities. On the far left end of the table is Caroline Hendrie, who recently started work as the executive director of the national Society of Professional Journalists organization, working remotely from her home in Potomac, Maryland. On the far right end is Will Schick, chapter vice president for 2024-2025, standing in for the new chapter president. Second from right is Stephenie Overman, chapter member and SPJ Region 2 coordinator, whose duties involve keeping the chapter and the national organization in touch with each other. Others are identified in dinner photos elsewhere on this webpage. Photo by Randy Showstack
