SPJ DC Pro Chapter board member and executive editor of Street Sense Will Schick participated in a discussion sponsored by the national SPJ International Community with Stavros Malicudis, director of We Are Solomon in Greece, about ways for the media to cover people in crisis in a humane and ethical manner.
The two journalists talked about how their organizations not only cover people facing some of the roughest times in their lives, but also what they do to help these people recover and move on.
The session was hosted by Kasim Abdurehim Kashgar, a journalist with Voice of America and the subject of a documentary on his journey as a Uyghur Muslim from China to the United States. (From Fear to Freedom: A Uyghur’s Journey)
