Congratulations to Alexandria Times publisher and chapter leader Dunbar on 11 VPA Awards

Congratulations to SPJ DC Pro Chapter Acting President Denise Dunbar, publisher and executive editor of the Alexandria Times, and her team for garnering 11 Virginia Press Association awards on May 7 at the annual VPA banquet in Short Pump, Virginia. Among the Times awards were five first-place finishes.

In the group of non-dailies, Dunbar finished in first place in Editorial Writing.

Jessica Kim finished in first place in the Education, Churches and Organizations category; placed first in the Fashion and Personal Care, and Home and Garden categories; and took second place in the Food and Drug category. She also placed third in the Digital Advertising category.

There were third place honors for Olivia Anderson, Cody Mello-Klein and Kassidy McDonald in the Front Page, and Special Sections or Special Editions categories. Mello-Klein and Dunbar were in first place in the Specialty Pages or Sections category.

Anderson was in competition under a stand-alone byline and finished second in Feature Story Writing (excluding Obituaries) and third in In-depth or Investigative Reporting.
