The SPJ DC Chapter earned a free registration for the SPJ21 Journalism Conference Sept. 2-4, thanks to the support from our members for the Society of Professional Journalists Foundation.
The winning chapter member’s name was drawn from those who responded to a simple survey sent out to our members.
We want to thank Frances Fickling, mother of our Corresponding Secretary Amy Fickling, for drawing out the winning name.
And the winner is . . . Rodney Brooks.
You can watch Mrs. Fickling draw the winner here. * She is all decked out in New Orleans Mardi Gras-themed gear, with jazz music featuring Louis Armstrong in the background to represent New Orleans, where the hybrid conference was to take place. (Of course, now that the conference is all-virtual, we will all have to wait for another time to enjoy the music and the food of the Big Easy.)
* technical note: We couldn’t get the video of first part of the drawing, showing the preparation of the California Raisins for participation in the Second Line band and for lining up to march into the bag for the actual drawing, posted at the same time as the second part. That’s what they are doing in the second video, posted, with a random number attached to each.
