Save the Date! Here are some upcoming chapter events

            — Tuesday, Oct. 14: Panel discussion on “What Journalists Need to Know About ‘Net Neutrality’ and the Future of the Internet.” Panelists will include: David Alvarez, legal adviser to Federal Communications Commission Chair Tom Wheeler; Randolph May, president of the Free State Foundation; Nicol Turner-Lee, chief research and officer, Minority Media and Telecommunications Council; Lauren Wilson, policy council at consumer group, Free Press; and Lucy Dalglish, dean of the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism. Panel chair will be Jonathon Make of Warren Communications. Light refreshments from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Event will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Medill Washington Center, 1325 G St. N.W., in Washington.             — Wednesday, Nov. 19: “The Last Word: Obituary Writers and the Ultimate Feature Story.” Trio of three top obituary writers: Adam Bernstein, The Washington Post; Adam Clymer, The New York Times; and Larry Arnold, Bloomberg News Service. Event will be 6 to 8 p.m. at The Washington Post conference room, 1175 15th St. N.W., in Washington. Charge for SPJ members is $6; for others, $8. University students with ID are admitted free.

            — December: Chapter holiday party and social event. (Date pending).

            — January 2015: Tour of Voice of America and panel discussion on “Sending U.S. News Overseas.” (Date pending). Program being organized by D.C. SPJ chapter board member Nafisa Safarova.

            — March 27-28, 2015: The Region 2 conference at the University of Maryland at College Park. Conference chairman is Josh Davidsburg, a lecturer at the university.
