What’s good for conventions is good for Hall of Fame dinner

Joe Grimm (Ask the Recruiter at Poynter) answers a question about taking business cards to conventions.

Bring Professional & Personal Business Cards to Journalism Conventions

He talks about the importance of bringing personal and professional cards to conventions. After all, we have long known that journalism conventions are perfect places to network and find new jobs. (I learned this big benefit of the SPJ early on.)

I would add that awards dinners are also a great place to network. So bring your cards.

Think about it, tomorrow night (June 15) in one room for one night will be the top names of Washington journalism. Not just the NAMES who write or produce the stories but also the NAMES who do the hiring.

I will bet there are still some seats available, so click here to buy your tickets.

Just to remind you why you want to be at the dinner tomorrow:

Besides honoring the best of local Washington journalism with the Dateline Awards, the DC SPJ will be inducting the following journalists into the Journalism Hall of Fame:

  • Westwood One radio host Jim Bohannon

  • Radio-Television Digital News Association [RTDNA] President Emeritus Barbara Cochran

  • Editor-at-Large Jack Limpert of Washingtonian magazine

  • former Newsweek magazine Washington Bureau Chief Mel Elfin

And the D.C. Pro chapter’s 2010 Distinguished Service Award will go to Sue Kopen Katcef of the University of Maryland’s Phillip Merrill College of Journalism.
