Join the Society of Professional Journalists D.C. Pro Chapter the evening of Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, to hear Sarah D. Wire (http://www.latimes.com/la-bio-sarah-d-wire-staff.html and https://twitter.com/sarahdwire) discuss covering California’s entire congressional delegation for the Los Angeles Times. Wire will speak in Q&A with SPJ D.C.’s Alice Ollstein (https://twitter.com/AliceOllstein), herself a political reporter for ThinkProgress.
Wire will discuss the challenges of covering the 55 members of California’s delegation to the U.S. Congress, the most representatives of any state. She’ll discuss what it’s like to cover a racially and politically diverse bunch of legislators and the ins and outs of building sources on Capitol Hill and elsewhere.
The event takes place at the Fund for American Studies at 1706 New Hampshire Ave. NW, a few blocks from Dupont Circle and its Metrorail Red Line station (http://www.tfas.org/contactus). Doors open at 6:30 p.m., panel begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. Audience questions are encouraged and students in particular may find this panel helpful in their journalism studies.
Event is free and includes snacks and beverages, but you must register beforehand here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/la-times-sarah-wire-discusses-covering-cas-congressional-delegation-tickets-30292045323 Questions to SPJ D.C.’s Jonathan Make, press@warren-news.com or www.twitter.com/makejdm.
