SPJDC PRO chapter observes Ethics Week 2 p.m. Friday, April 28 with a Zoom panel discussion on the ways this revolutionary technology poses both problems and opportunities for journalists and citizens.
AI technology that can produce researched, literate work products, but sometimes fabricates falsehoods can create ethical dilemmas for journalism and democracy. Will responsible journalists find themselves competing with bots that have no scruples? Will citizens worried about the safety of their food and water have their voice diluted by corporate messages generated by AI pushing for business-friendly rules? Is there a way for ChatGPT to bring about changes that improve journalism and make democracy work better? These will be some of the issues our panel will explore.
Moderator: Celia Wexler – Board member, SPJDC, free-lance writer and nonfiction author
