Notes from Anaheim

          — This year's recipient of the SPJ-DC chapter's Helen Thomas Scholarship was the SPJ chapter at the University of Maryland/Philip Merrill College of Journalism. The annual scholarship is awarded to help a qualifying student SPJ chapter defray the costs of sending its members to the national convention.

          — A discussion is underway about whether to update the SPJ Code of Ethics, which was last changed in 1996. SPJ has created a survey about the code and would like to hear from anyone with an opinion. Go to https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1-qKuef3V6hGbkpflqP_JKgW0IO1gjKzOeTXcoQW-Iac/viewform.

            — Should the Society of Professional Journalists change its name to the Society of Professional Journalism? On his blog, Region 3 Director Michael Koretzky explains why he submitted that idea as a resolution at this year's convention. Read his post at http://blogs.spjnetwork.org/region3. SPJ President David Cuillier is planning to create a task force to study the idea further.
