MINUTES OF Feb. 4 meeting

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

  • — Recap vote via email: On Feb. 13, Bill McCloskey moved to take earlier motion off the table (from Feb. 4 board meeting) and to amend it to reflect the chapter's desire to contribute 1/3 of the cost of the Open Government Coalition event March 13 up to $800. Seconded by Steve Taylor. Six yes votes; not clear to me how Andy or Amy voted. (Andy said he remained skeptical; didn’t see vote from Amy)
  • — Chapter audit.
  • — Getting copies of board-approved minutes from Sherell Williams, former chapter recording secretary.
  • — Adding Asher’s name to Capital One accounts (done Feb. 19), update on online access.
  • — Report on Feb. 22 mixer
  • — Nominations process/upcoming board election.

PROGRAMS

  • — April job fair bringing together as sponsors various J-groups –- will take place on campus of University of Maryland (tentative) on Sat., April 13, or Sat., April 20; organizer is Brandon Benavides, president of DC chapter of NAHJ.
  • — Updates on speakers for Open Government Coalition program March 13 in the Holeman Lounge at NPC (Bob). Publicity via our website; we need evite.
  • — NPC’s Freelance Committee and SPJ-DC’s freelance interest group will hold a workshop for freelancers April 3.
  • — Region 2 conference in Norfolk April 19-20.

TREASURER

  • — Treasurer’s report; copies of most recent bank statements for board review.

OLD BUSINESS

  • — Report by Joel Whitaker on the Dateline Awards contest –- number of entrees received by original deadline of Feb. 28; decision made to extend deadline to March 8; next steps.
  • — Update (if there is any) on Hall of Fame nominees (Steve).
  • — Review remaining dates for chapter board meetings.

NEW BUSINESS

  • — Need vote/or sense of board (or recap if board already took action on this): 1) Not paying for SDX scholarship awardees or their guests to attend the banquet (we did not in 2012, but Reggie got someone (?) to buy a table and host them); 2) How many comp tickets this year — last year: 4 Hall of Famers, 4 introducers; 1 DSA winner, 1 introducer; national president; Region 2 director
  • — Story ideas for April/May newsletter.
