Chapter to honor top-notch Washington reporting with Hall of Fame inductees

Close to a century and a half of top-notch Washington reporting will be honored at the chapter's Awards Dinner in June, as four journalism veterans are inducted to the SPJ-DC Hall of Fame.

Columnist Ruth Marcus, who joined The Washington Post in 1984, is the junior member of the group. Also accepting induction will be Brian Lamb, who has directed C-SPAN since its 1979 inception (he just announced his retirement); Carl Kasell, who was the news anchor of NPR's Morning Edition from  its first broadcast, also in 1979; and Sander Vanocur of NBC News, who was one of the reporters asking questions at the first Kennedy-Nixon presidential debate in 1960.

The dinner will be held in the ballroom of the National Press Club on Tuesday, June 12, beginning with a reception at 6:30 pm. The event will also feature presentation of the chapter's Dateline Awards as well as the Distinguished Service Award for local journalism. This year's recipient of the DSA is Carol Dudley, Director of the Office of Career Development at the Howard University School of Communications.

Tickets for the June 12 event are now available and may be purchased through dinner chair Andy Schotz at LawnGyland@aol.com. The cost is $80 a ticket for chapter members (members also can buy an $80 ticket for one guest). For nonmembers and other guests the price is $110 per ticket.
