Chapter Hosts Journalists From Abroad

WPI Group Meets DC Journalists

Ten journalists from around the world visiting the United States under the auspices of the World Press Institute had a chance to just sit down and chat with journalists in Washington, DC, without any agenda. The Meet and Greet was sponsored by the Washington, DC, SPJ Pro chapter October 4 at the National Press Club.

Topics of discussion included foundations and civic groups might fund non-profit news organizations, the jailing of journalists — just for being journalists, journalism ethics, the survival of newspapers and the challenges of dealing with misinformation from sources. There was also some discussion about freelancing in the United States, because, as some of the guests noted, there are not enough opportunities in their home countries.

SPJ chapters in Phoenix, Chicago and New York City have all said they are also planning to host the group during their visit.

The WPI has been bringing journalists from around the world to meet their American counterparts since 1961. Executive Director of WPI, Zach Mullinax explained the work of the WPI in an interview with the SPJ International Community September 7, 2022.
