If you’ve thought about starting your own podcast or are just interested in what goes into launching and producing one, this is the video to watch.
The SPJ DC Pro Chapter hosted a session with podcaster Sarah Ventre Jan. 8, 2024. She has produced stories for NPR, PBS, Gimlet, Vox, Critical Frequency, Crooked Media, Campside Media, The African American Policy Forum, Center for Science and the Imagination, and The Moth.
Her podcast, Unfinished: Short Creek, about a fundamentalist Mormon community on the Utah-Arizona border, was named one of 2020’s top podcasts by both The New Yorker and The Atlantic, and her reporting there won an Edward R. Murrow award for journalistic excellence. Ventre discussed her career in audio investigative journalism, the perils and promise of embedded reporting, and how she has survived and thrived in a changing media landscape.
She also gave a lot of great tips for beginning your own podcast.
