Head on down to Macy's in the next week or so. You will find a special display of Haitian art for sale.
The presence of the art is the result of some forward thinking people in Canada, Haiti and Macy's.
Proceeds from the sales go directly to the artists and their families in Haiti.

What does all have to do with journalism?
Think of the local stories that can be generated from just looking into the local sales of this Haitian art at local Macy's outlets. (If you can't think of any ideas about what to do with this, go to Local-Global: Macy’s helps Haitian Artists for some ideas.)
And this is not the first time Macy's made art from another country available to American consumers.
Five years ago Macy's sold baskets made by rural women of Rwanda. The money the women earned helped them rebuild their lives and their country.
Seems to me there are a few global stories in this very local action.
