Professional development, outreach contributed to qualifications
The DC Pro Chapter of SPJ was one of several chapters in the running for Large Pro Chapter of the Year. Finalists were announced in August.
Congratulations to the eventual winners — that’s right, plural this year. National SPJ says there was a three-way tie for first place, so the Press Club of Long Island, the Chicago Headline Club and Florida Pro came out on top! Bravo!

Jonathan Make wins national Dubin Award for Outstanding Chapter Member
But now-DC Pro Chapter Immediate Past President Jonathan Make made his mark on the national scene during his second term at the helm of DC Pro, and his efforts did not go unnoticed. He spearheaded an effort to unite chapters across the country in bringing to the attention of the national SPJ board matters of concern about how managing business on the SPJ national level is impinging on chapters in their efforts to keep the journalism principles and missions of the Society going.
Congratulations to Jonathan for his ongoing efforts and much-deserved recognition for them!

And here is a recap of other activities from the DC Pro Chapter’s Dateline Online newsletter for July/August 2019, with links:
DC Pro Immediate Past President Jonathan Make led an effort earlier this summer to make sure SPJ chapters around the country were aware that an online meeting of the national board’s Executive Committee on July 13 would have a 30-minute (later changed to be a minimum of 30 minutes) slot set aside to hear from members on what qualities and skills they would like the next SPJ executive director to possess.
