Have you made your reservation?

SEPT. 25, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
On the Sports Beat: A conversation with women sports reporters who work at the Washington Post

Sports journalism has long been a male-dominated field. The Washington Post has made headlines for having female reporters leading coverage of the city’s NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB franchises, as well as other sports.

Join SPJ DC Pro Chapter members, Georgetown’s Graduate Journalism Program and other journalists for the panel featuring Post reporters Isabelle Khurshudyan, who covers the Washington Capitals; Candace Buckner, who covers the Washington Wizards; Liz Clarke, a sports writer who has covered the Washington Redskins and other teams; Kimberley Martin, who has covered the Washington Redskins and recently took a new job with Yahoo Sports; and Ava Wallace, who covers college sports teams, including those at Georgetown, Navy and the University of Maryland-College Park.

They will talk about how sports journalism has evolved and what it is like being a woman reporter on the beat.

RSVP today for this panel (directions to the venue available by clicking the link). There is no charge to attend, and it is open to the public. But we must have your reservation for ensuring your entry through the building’s security gates. PLEASE RESPOND BY MONDAY, Sept. 24. Light refreshments will be available before the program starts. Program begins at 7 p.m.

We’re securing some tables from about 6:30 to 7:45 or 8 p.m., and you can order and buy what you want from the menu there – just enough to tide you over until noshing at the stadium 8 to 10 p.m. Sliders is at 504 Washington Boulevard, just a 3-minute walk from the convention hotel.

WHY GATHER?

Besides catching up with chapter members and friends who are at the convention, we expect to be celebrating the chapter’s Circle of Excellence awards, to be announced at the opening business session. DC Pro also is a finalist for the Large Chapter of the Year award, and we’ll find out which chapter gets that honor this year during the business session as well. CHEERS!!

If you are planning to join us at Sliders, RSVP to DC Pro Vice President Randy Showstack (by email, text or phone: randy.100@usa.net; 202-257-3105) so that we know to be looking for you, though it’s OK if you just show up if your schedule permits. We look forward to seeing you there.
