Two students from the University of Maryland and one from the University of the District of Columbia will receive $4,000 scholarships from the Sigma Delta Chi Foundation of Washington, D.C.
The Foundation’s Scholarship Committee selected Bradley Mighdoll and Stephanie Ostroff from Maryland, and Andrea Wright, the first UDC student to win an SDX/DC scholarship, at the conclusion of a rigorous screening and interview process. Among factors considered were the students’ views on journalistic fairness, ethics and First Amendment values.
Mighdoll, a rising senior, is a journalism major concentrating on broadcast news. Ostroff, also a journalism major, is pursuing magazine writing. Wright, a rising junior majoring in English and journalism, is interested in feature and business writing. In addition to the SDX scholarship, Ostroff will receive the $1,000 Ira R. Allen Award made annually to a Maryland student on behalf of Allen, a past SDX/DC scholarship winner who serves on the Foundation board.
