The 2024 winners of the Online Investigative Journalism Award were David Hilzenrath (left) of KFF Health News, Jodie Fleischer (center) of Cox Media Group, and Fred Clasen-Kelly (who is represented by another investigative team member), among other contributors, for their collaborative effort on “Overpayment Outrage: Investigation of Social Security Clawbacks.” The category winner also was the winner of the Robert D.G. Lewis Award selected from the winning entries in each contest category, which recognizes the best-in-contest example of journalism that is aimed at protecting the public from abuses by those who would betray the public trust.
