Zach Cohen talks about covering Congress

 Published Date: July 16, 2021

Zach Cohen of the National Journal was the winner of the Dateline Award for Weekly Newspaper Beat Reporting for his U.S. Senate reporting. He was also a finalist in the non-breaking news and investigative journalism categories.

Cohen was a 2013 recipient of an SDX Foundation of Washington, D.C., journalism scholarship, to be used during his junior year at American University. He was also designated an SDX Foundation Gridiron Fellow, as part of his scholarship was funded by a scholarship grant to the foundation from the Gridiron Foundation, the education fund arm of the Gridiron Club. SDX-DC is the education arm of the Washington, D.C., Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, which sponsors the annual Dateline Awards journalism contest.

Here he talks about his beat and what journalism — and winning a Dateline Award — means to him.
