DC Pro Chapter salutes journalists working through violence on Hill to keep citizens informed

The following statement was issued Jan. 7, 2021, regarding events on Capitol Hill Jan. 6 during the confirmation of the Electoral College vote declaring Joe Biden the next president of the United States, by Society of Professional Journalists Washington, D.C., Pro Chapter President Randy Showstack, on behalf of the chapter:

“We are with all journalists who stood firm for the First Amendment privilege and responsibility to the citizens of the United States of America of seeking truth and reporting it in the face of mob violence yesterday at the U.S. Capitol. By exercising our rights, the public has been informed, and our words and images will become part of the historical record.”
