Seeking candidates for SPJ-DC’s chapter board for 2014-2015
Media positions are vanishing in the tsunami hitting newsrooms across America. But, at SPJ chapters, dedicated workers are needed now, perhaps, more than ever.
That certainly applies to the Washington, D.C., SPJ Pro chapter, where candidates are needed to serve in board and officer positions for the upcoming chapter year, 2014-2015.
As a board member or officer, you help determine and implement programs, engage in FOI and other vital journalistic issues. You can also build networks to help struggling young and older journalists who are looking for ways to keep working as a journalist.
There is also the joy of meeting and working with new people that comes with the satisfaction of helping the overall mission of SPJ.
The positions of president, vice president, treasurer, recording secretary and corresponding secretary will be on the ballot for one-year terms. We also will have four open at-large seats with two-year terms on the chapter board open.
If you are interested in running, please send an email to nominations@spjdc.org.
Volunteers wanted to help with upcoming Region 2 conference
Your SPJ-DC pro chapter is helping sponsor this year’s SPJ Region 2 Conference for professional members and student chapters March 28-29. It will be hosted at the new Georgetown University campus at 640 Massachusetts Ave. NW, near Gallery Place METRO.
SO we need volunteers to help with, among other things, running the registration table, guiding attendees to meeting rooms and helping set up food and drinks for the Friday reception March 28. If you can help out, please contact volunteer coordinator, Julie Asher. He work phone is 202-541-3266 and her email is jasher@catholicnews.com.
