Nail named a broadcasting ‘Giant’

Former D.C. Pro chapter President (1973-74) "Tack" Nail, a member of the chapter's Hall of Fame, has been named a Giant of Broadcasting by the Library of American Broadcasting, located at the University of Maryland.

Nail will be added to its roll of honor on Oct. 14 at a ceremony and luncheon in New York's Grand Hyatt Hotel (42nd Street and Grand Central Station).

Nail's career covering broadcasting and the other electronic media began at Broadcasting magazine in 1954 and continued to his accidental death this year. He was renowned for his many breaking stories and his Oklahoma drawl, as well as his friendships throughout the industry.

Lowry Mays, chairman of Clear Channel, remarked at this year's National Association of Broadcasters convention that he had "never gone to an NAB without being greeted by Tack."

Others being inducted as Giants include Christiane Amanpour of ABC News, Brian Lamb of C-SPAN, Frances Preston of BMI and actor James Arness of Gunsmoke, who also died this year.
