If your time is limited but you want to help the SPJ, we could use some volunteers to judge student newspaper, magazine, radio, television and online entries in this year’s Mark of Excellence Awards, SPJ's collegiate journalism competition.
In most of the 39 individual categories, entries are available for viewing online, making judging much easier than ever and eliminating the need for extensive shipping and recordkeeping. Only one judge per category is required, although group judging is always welcome.
Judges need not be SPJ members, but must have professional experience and/or education relevant to the category. Judges may handle more than one category.
Judges will receive log-in information for their categories by Feb. 1, 2011. Comments need to be supplied only for the first-place winner in each category. All results must be entered online by Feb. 28.
The list of 39 categories is posted at www.spj.org/moe-categories.asp. If you can help out by judging one or more of these groups, please contact Andy Schotz at LawnGyland@aol.com.
More information about the MOE Awards, including rules, is posted at www.spj.org/a-moe.asp.
