The event, which is open to the general public, will focus on mobilizing the public to encourage candidates to address and commit to increased D.C. government transparency during the upcoming campaign season.
We will hear from the Washington Post’s Robert McCartney, an observer of the local political scene as a columnist for the Metro Section, about the importance of open government in the District. In addition, Councilmember Mary Cheh* will discuss her recently introduced Open Government Act of 2010, and the legislative director for Councilmember Muriel Bowser will discuss the Open Government is Good Government Act of 2010. The D.C. Open Government Coalition will present the findings from its recent audit of agency compliance with aspects of the District’s Freedom of Information Act.
