FCC looking for comments on digital democracy

The Knight Commission on the Information Needs of Communities in a Democracy sent out a note this week that the Federal Communications Commission is seeking comments on how to better use broadbacn access to improve the democratic process.

Specifically it is looking for comments on:

  1. registering to vote
  2. processes leading up to election day
  3. voting; and
  4. online government hearings and online town hall meetings.

I figure the SPJ has an interest in seeing that when how governments use the Internet to conduct meetings or town halls, that the same open meetings laws that apply to the in-person analog meetings apply to the digital meetings.

Comments are due to the FCC Dec. 10.
