Journalism training in China, how professional is it?

Came across an interesting article in Asia Times Online about journalism training in China.

I have friends who have done training and journalism education in China and who have all tried to bring the idea of an unfettered media to a place where the news is tightly controlled. In the end, many j-profs teach interviewing techniques and help the students improve their English.

Now there is an international school of journalism that has some hope. But as with most reforms in China it is one step forward and two steps back.

I haven’t seen any reporting or dicsussion about this school or the movement for reform from any US journalism group or in any US publication. So I bring it up here.

I discuss this issue in another blog posting.

I just thought you all might be interested.
