As we said goodbye to Ann Augherton on Friday after six years as Region 2 director, we welcomed Brian Eckert as an eager successor.
Brian had a great anecdote about the uncertainty of stepping into the position.
He said it reminded him of reffing a basketball game in a small gym where the crowd, upset by some calls, had grown hostile.
One older woman screamed at him from the crowd: "You may be purty, but you can’t ref for shit."
"That’s how I feel," Brian quipped after he told the story.
I’m sure he’ll be just fine. I’m even more sure the D.C. Pro chapter will say friendlier things to him when he’s in town.
Brian, who works at the University of Richmond and has plenty of experience in journalism and SPJ, has pledged to visit every chapter in the region.
