Social networks taking up more time

Just to follow up on that wonderful social network program the local chapter sponsored last month…

Nielsen Online released a study Monday (3/9) that showed social networks — including blogs — are now the fourth most popular online activity, even ahead of personal e-mail.

The report, “Global Faces and Networked Places” also shows that Americans used social networks 6.4 percent of their online time in December 2008. This is an 11 percent increase from December 2007.

The Brazilians topped the list, using social networks about 23 percent of the time while onliune. This is actually a drop from the previous year when the rate was 24.4 percent. Even with the decline in social network participation by the Brazilians, the next closest country was the United Kingdom at 17.4 percent.
