Position Summary:
The Herald supports the evangelization efforts of the bishop and the diocese by publishing a weekly Catholic newspaper. The Graphic Designer supports the advertising department by creating advertisement which sustains the paper.
Key Responsibilities:
- Update and create ads for weekly newspaper.
- Work with Ad Reps to finalize client’s advertising artwork and / or troubleshoot issues with ads.
- Export Ads in a Format for Newspaper.
- Pre-flight ad files for potential problems.
- Place ads on Newspaper Pages.
- Archiving client artwork.
- Manage the organization of electronic/paper files on/off system.
- Back-up for the Production Manager.
- Assist with editorial corrections.
- Photo scanning and clean-up for web and print.
- Assist in exporting electronic newspaper issue files to send by FTP on Tuesdays.
- Secondary phone contact for Printer on Tuesdays with the availability to come in and troubleshoot any problems that may arise on Press.
- Works with Production Manager on in-house marketing materials.
- Assist with the layout of the classified pages when needed.

Position Requirements
Skills:
- The Graphic Designer should be self-motivated and extremely well organized.
- Be able to think creatively with an eye for detail.
- Must be a team player, whom possesses leadership and decision-making skills.
- Must be deadline-oriented with the ability to work quickly(while managing multiple tasks simultaneously) in a fast-paced environment.
- Be comfortable with trouble shooting through multiple software programs and be familiar with digital file formats.
- Must possess solid communication skills.
- Be able to take directions and constructive criticism gracefully.
Education: Degree in Graphic Design or Graphic Arts, or equivalent work experience required.
Years and Types of Experience:
Must have extensive experience using Adobe Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat. Helpful to have an understanding of PDF-to-print workflow (Acrobat’s Flight-check Functions). Three years minimum print design and production experience, or have a comparable portfolio. Web experience a plus.
