The SPJ-DC chapter is currently accepting entries for its annual Dateline Awards contest for local journalism.
The contest is open to both print and broadcast media outlets throughout the D.C. metropolitan area. This includes the District of Columbia; Alexandria, Fredericksburg, Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun, Stafford and Prince William counties in Virginia; and counties throughout Maryland.
Entry criteria may be found at http://www.spjdc.org/node/19. The entry form may be found at http://www.spjdc.org/node/13592.
All entries must be postmarked by Feb. 28, 2014. Awards will be presented to the winners at the annual Dateline Awards dinner, which will take place Tuesday, June 10, at the National Press Club. Dinner details to be announced soon.
Entries will be judged by journalists and related professionals whose primary assignments do not include local news. These judges will nominate entries worthy for the Robert D.G. Lewis Watchdog Award, which is presented to an applicant in any award classification whose entry best exemplifies journalism aimed at protecting the public from abuses by those who would betray the public trust.
As always, please remember that you do not need to be a member of SPJ to enter your work. But SPJ has many benefits for professional journalists! Any questions about the contest should be directed to Jenny Chen, SPJ Contest Coordinator, at datelineawards@spjdc.org.
