The Washington, D.C., Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists is accepting applications for its annual Dateline Awards Contest. You do not need to be a member of SPJ to enter your work. But SPJ has many benefits for professional journalists. For full details, click here.
The contest is open to print, online and broadcast media journalists throughout the D.C. metropolitan area. This includes the District of Columbia; Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun, Stafford and Prince William counties, as well as the cities of Fairfax, Alexandria, Manassas and Manassas Park in Virginia; and Montgomery, Prince Georges, Anne Arundel and Howard counties in Maryland.
The Online Only category and the Blog category were both introduced in the last three years to better represent the changes in the industry.
Entry criteria may be found at here, and the entry form may be found at here.
Entries will be judged by journalists from another SPJ chapter. These judges will nominate entries worthy of consideration for the Robert D.G. Lewis Watchdog Award, which is presented to an applicant in any award classification whose entry best exemplifies journalism aimed at protecting the public from abuses by those who would betray the public trust.
All entries must be postmarked by February 28, 2014. Awards will be presented to the winners at the Annual Dateline Awards Dinner June 10, 2014 at the National Press Club.
