Writing contest to help the homeless

Street Sense’s Write for Poverty

WHO: Journalists and professional writers in the Washington area.

WHAT: Write an essay (600 to 1,000 words) on a pre-assigned topic related to poverty and/or homelessness. And collect a few donations to support Street Sense on a per word basis (ala a walk-a-thon). Select essays will run in the May and June issues of Street Sense, DC’s newspaper about poverty and homeless issues that reaches more than 20,000 readers each month.

WHEN: Writing Week: Saturday April 5th to Friday April 11th.
Award Presentation and Reception: Thursday May 1.

WHERE: The writing is done from wherever you choose.
